Darlington is a market town and a sub-regional centre for employment. Due to its geographical situation possessing an international airport; a mainline railway station and excellent links to motorways it presents itself as the Gateway to the Tees Valley and County Durham.

In June 2005, Darlington Borough Council joined forces with Busy Bees Childcare Vouchers to give parents the opportunity to save up to £1,196* on their childcare.
Under the Busy Bees Childcare Voucher scheme, employees simply exchange up to £243 per month (£55 per week) of their salary for Childcare Vouchers.
Childcare Vouchers are exempt from tax and National Insurance Contributions and give working parents the opportunity to save on approved or registered childcare which includes nurseries, nannies, childminders, au pairs, holiday schemes and out of school clubs.
Amanda Hugill, Performance and Development Officer at Darlington Borough Council, said: “We’ve been offering Busy Bees Childcare Vouchers now for almost three years and many parents are benefiting from the scheme.
“Busy Bees supply us with a range of marketing materials to help promote the scheme to all our staff with children – from posters to payslips attachments to newsletters. Using these different methods, we can make our staff aware of the scheme, wherever they are. It’s given to us at no extra cost either, which is even better.”
Amanda concluded: “Busy Bees is a great scheme to have because it benefits both parties. Employees are amazed by the savings they can make, and we get to save money as an organisation too.”
